Surprise Rotary Seeks Grant Applicants

The Rotary Club of Surprise announced last week they are accepting applications for the 2019 Rotary Club of Surprise Community Foundation Grant.

The foundation grant will benefit local charities, divvying up the proceeds of next year’s Taste of Surprise charity event, which is tentatively slated for Saturday, April 6, 2019.

This year’s Taste of Surprise event raised funds for nine local charities, including A New Leaf, Benevilla, Black Family and Child Services, Homeless Youth Connection, One Step Beyond, Surprise Youth Foundation, Valley View Community Food Bank, WHAM, and the Rotary Club of Surprise Community Foundation.

To qualify, grant applicants must be a 501c3 organization serving the Surprise area.

Grant applications can be found online at or

All applications must be received by July 20, 2018.

Event organizers also announced The Park at Surprise will return for the second year as the 2019 Taste of Surprise co-title sponsor.

The Park’s at Surprise’s Victory Bistro won “Best in Show” for their offerings at the event. Rhonda Thiel, the group’s executive director, said her organization is excited to cook up something special for next year’s event.

“All of us from The Park at Surprise were so impressed with how great the 2018 Taste of Surprise went,” Ms. Thiel stated. “The Surprise community really came together in support of the Rotary and it was an honor to be a part of it. Our BBQ pulled pork canapes with pineapple-mango salsa were a hit, winning best of show, and we are excited to come up with another delicious creation and support next year’s Taste of Surprise!”

The Rotary Club of Surprise meets 5:30 p.m. the first and third Thursdays each month at El Tepeyac Café, 17300 Sun Village Parkway. The public is invited to attend.
